This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog – it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. (James 4:14)
Whatever you do work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord. (Colossians 3:23)
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (Hebrews 10:36)
Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Hebrews 13:20-21)
Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16)
DEVOTIONAL
God never intended us to go through the motions in life. Yet, so many of us find ourselves living on autopilot instead of living with intention. Jesus lived each day in complete surrender to The Father’s will. He didn’t live with the modern-day M.O. to sleep, grind, and repeat. Instead, He lived with deep purpose and conviction. He stopped when He sensed a divine interruption or assignment. So how do we follow Jesus’ example to live with purpose when our daily lives feel mundane?
Viktor Frankl’s book A Man’s Search for Meaning describes his experience surviving a Nazi death camp. He summed up his resilience by saying, “He who knows the ‘why’ for his existence is able to bear almost any ‘how.’” Through both mountaintop and valley seasons, it’s essential to remember our purpose, our why.
1 Peter 2:9 reminds us of that identity and purpose, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
We have a choice—we can go with the flow of culture or the flow of God’s Spirit. We can allow emotions to lead us, or we can live with intention. We can allow distractions to guide us, or we can live like Jesus, with a deep sense of purpose, a resolute and God-inspired why.
DECLARATION
I acknowledge each day is a gift from God! I am thankful for the gift of today. I will be disciplined. I will work hard in every task I do today, making the most of every opportunity and recognizing my work is for the Lord. Christ in me is stronger than the wrong desires in me. I am chosen for a purpose.
PRAYER
Jesus, thank you for creating me on purpose and for a purpose. Thank you that I can get out of bed in the morning knowing that my creator has an assignment for me. Thank you that you designed my giftings, strengths, and abilities and that you want to use me to reach hurting people. Open my eyes up to your kingdom work today and every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
