Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Matthew 5:4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30
DEVOTIONAL
Times of grieving can feel lonely, painful, and confusing. Our day-to-day responsibilities carry on, but our heartache doesn’t go away. We may be tempted to stuff down our emotions and push through the pain, but God wants us to use times of grieving to draw close to Him. God invites our honesty; He wants us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us.
If you are grieving, let your tears become prayers to God. Rest knowing that God is with you and wants to comfort you. God understands the circumstances more than anyone else. Try to resist the temptation to fast-forward the process and allow God to finish the work He started in you.
DECLARATION
When I am distressed or mourning, I turn to God. I come to Jesus because He is everything I need. He is my strength, my fortress, and my refuge. There is a time for mourning, and there is a time for joy and hope. God is with me; He will bring comfort and healing with every passing day.
PRAYER
Jesus, thank you that you are near to the brokenhearted. Thank you for your faithfulness through every season. Bring me comfort through my grief and help me to rise up in strength. Heal my broken heart and help me share your comfort with others one day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
