CFStudents Group Guide | Catfished
This time is all about building strong relationships. The win is that students are known, learning, and developing a faith of their own. These questions are to simply serve as conversation starters.
Vision
We are in a four-week series called Catfished, where we are helping students identify where they might be falling for counterfeit truths so they can shift their minds to pursue the real thing. Throughout this series, we are exploring how the enemy tries to make his ways look enticing or attractive only to turn us away from God’s plans, leading to hurt and pain. Across these weeks, we are tackling massive cultural traps our students face every single day, ranging from the false comfort of self-worship and hidden sins to pushing boundaries in dating relationships.
Your Goal as a Leader
The goal of the questions is to guide the conversation, engage students, have them share about the topics, and create a full environment. It's okay if you don't get to every question, as long as students are interacting and involved in group time.
Week Four | July 1st
1. Icebreaker: If your personality had to be described as a popular brand or a specific product, what would it be and why?
2. What are some cultural things like horoscopes, crystals, or angel numbers that you see people your age noticing or talking about the most?
Tip: You do not need to be experts on every New Age trend. But you can help students recognize that looking anywhere other than Jesus for guidance takes our focus off the Creator.
3. The message talked about how New Age spirituality tells us to look inside ourselves for peace, but where do you usually go when you are searching for real peace?
Tip: If students give quick "church answers" about finding peace in God, ask them what looking to Jesus actually looks like on a stressful day at school.
4. What is something in your life you have noticed yourself obsessing over or prioritizing more than your relationship with God?
5. We learned that we can combat the lies of the enemy by turning to God’s Word and His people. Which of these two areas do you find harder to be intentional about, and what makes it difficult?
6. What is one specific area where you have been depending on your own feelings or worldly advice for guidance, and how can you actively choose to follow Jesus instead this week?
