Now What?: Kids Edition | Day 6

In the New Testament, we see that people are usually baptized when they start a relationship with Jesus. Baptism is letting everyone know that we are on Jesus’ team and that we follow Him. When we go under the water, it shows how Jesus was buried, and when we come up from the water, it shows that Jesus rose again!

Today we want to explore a little more about what baptism is...

What is the meaning of Baptism?
Baptism represents Jesus’ burial and resurrection.

Christ died for our sins... He was buried... He was raised on the third day.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
When you were baptized, you were buried together with Christ. And you were raised to life together with him when you were baptized. You were raised to life by believing in God’s work. God himself raised Jesus from the dead.
Colossians 2:12

Baptism represents our new life in Jesus.

By being baptized, we were buried with Christ into his death. Christ has been raised from the dead by the Father’s glory. And like Christ we also can live a new life.
Romans 6:4

Baptism is like a team jersey. Just like a jersey shows who is on what team, baptism shows that you are on God’s team. Remember, baptism doesn’t save you. Only faith in Jesus can. So when you get baptized, it is like you are putting on a jersey that shows everyone that you are on God’s team.

Who should be baptized?
ANYONE who is a believer in Jesus should be baptized.

Those who accepted His message were baptized.
Acts 2:41

Why should I be baptized?

1. To follow the example set by Jesus.

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee. John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River.
Mark 1:9

2. Because Jesus asks us to.

So you must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.
Matthew 28:19-20

When should I get baptized?

As soon as you are ready! People in the Bible were baptized right after they accepted Jesus into their hearts. So, if you are ready to take that step, then we have opportunities each month to get baptized. If you still need more time, that’s okay! Spend some time talking with your parents about this next step and pray about what God wants you to do. When you are ready, we are always here to help walk you through it.
